We had a lovely breakfast with Chantal & Alex in Strasbourg after which, at about 10 am, Alex guided us onto the freeway that lead us over the Rhine into Germany and onto Ulm where we were to meet Claus. Being a Sunday with no trucks on the road, it was 230 kms of easy driving.

We then left our rental car outside Claus' house and drove with him 180kms to meet his friends Wolfam and Gisela Reuter who live in Langenzenn/ Burggrafenhof just outside of Nürnberg. The German naming system has evolved over the centuries where the major town is Langenzenn and Burggrafenhof is like a suburb. The reason is that there are many villages called Burggrafenhof but only one Langenzenn/ Burggrafenhof.

When we got to Wolfram and Gisela's home, this lovely greeting was pinned to the door.

They had everything ready to welcome us with an afternoon snack of iced coffees and home-made cheesecake and strawberry pie.

Gisela (pronounced 'Gee-s-lah and not g-'zella as we had been saying) and Wolfram. Being a friend of Claus’ opens many doors with other control line fliers in Europe.

Wolfram recently retired from the workforce where he held a senior position at Bosch, a large German industrial company. We sat under the grape covered gazebo and took shelter from the heat wave that engulfed Europe at the time.
7 Sunday 11 July, 2010
Later in the day we were joined by Wolfram and Gisela's beautiful daughter Kerstin and her partner Lukas.

She's an architect and he's a commercial pilot; no dummies either of them.
9 Sunday 11 July, 2010
A couple of days later, Lukas was my pilot to show me Nürnberg from the air.

Gisela had made dinner for the seven of us in the Franconian style. It was an array of sausages, meats, breads plus garden and potato salads supplemented with wines, Schnapps and mineral water

Franconia is named after a tribe that lived in this area over 1000 years ago called the Franks. The bordering country of France is also named after the same tribe. We sat on the back porch and chatted about all sorts of things until midnight after which we went to bed.
